As the frontman and sole songwriter of The Strokes, Julian Casablancas helped ignite a depth charge that helped reinvigorate modern music. In 2013, Casablancas morphed into the next stage in his artistic development: The Voidz. Over the course of two albums—the daring 2014 debut Tyranny and its 2018 follow-up Virtue — the Voidz’ wild genre-splicing were embraced by fans of all genres and critics alike, developing an underground cult following. In addition to Casablancas, the Voidz are bolstered by the remarkable talents of outsized personalities of the visionistic guitarist Beardo, virtuosic guitarist Amir Yaghami, greatest drummer you never heard of - Alex Carapetis, composer Jeff Kite on synths & spiritual anchor/man behind the wordz bassist/keyboardist Jake Bercovici.
From experimental and heavy metal, to new wave and underground world music, all the way to old school hip-hop beats, indie rock, secret jazz, and classical leanings, the Voidz simply refer to their style (semi-jokingly) as "prison jazz."
They’ve also furthered their mutant-pop tendencies via collaborations with like-minded artists as diverse as Daft Punk (“Instant Crush”, “Infinity Repeating”), Mac DeMarco (“Did My Best”), and an original song for Grand Theft Auto.
In 2023, the Voidz’ forward-in-all-directions mindset continues to run rich. Consider the new single, “Prophecy Of The Dragon,” which feels like a gathering of various rock characters from various timelines of different musical multi-verses.
The single’s arrival comes as the band take the stage for appearances at Primavera Sound in Spain and quick sold-out stops in Italy and Holland, as well as a multi-night, sold-out residency at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall in June.
Stay tuned as the band will be announcing more releases and live dates soon...
